Green Day - Jesus Of Suburbia Lyrics

I'm the son of rage and love
The Jesus of suburbia
From the bible of none of the above
On a steady diet of
Soda pop and Ritalin
No one ever died for my sins in hell
As far as I can tell
At least the ones I got away with

And there's nothing wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed to be
In a land of make believe
That don't believe in me

There's a television fix sitting on my crucifix
The living room in my private womb
While the moms and brats are away

To fall in love and fall in debt
To alcohol and cigarettes
And Mary Jane
To keep me insane
Doing someone else's cocaine

And there's nothing wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed to be
In a land of make believe
That don't believe in me

[Part 2: City Of The Damned]

At the center of the Earth
In the parking lot
Of the 7-11 were I was taught
The motto was just a lie

It says home is where your heart is
But what a shame
Cause everyone's heart
Doesn't beat the same
It's beating out of time

City of the dead
At the end of another lost highway
Signs misleading to nowhere
City of the damned
Lost children with dirty faces today
No one really seems to care

I read the graffiti
In the bathroom stall
Like the holy scriptures of a shopping mall
And so it seemed to confess
It didn't say much
But it only confirmed that
The center of the earth
Is the end of the world
And I could really care less

City of the dead
At the end of another lost highway
Signs misleading to nowhere
City of the damned
Lost children with dirty faces today
No one really seems to care

[Part 3: I don't care]

I don't care if you don't
I don't care if you don't
I don't care if you don't care
[x4]

I don't caaaaaaaaaaaaaaare

Everyone is so full of shit
Born and raised by hypocrites
Hearts recycled but never saved
From the cradle to the grave
We are the kids of war and peace
From Anaheim to the middle east
We are the stories and disciples of
The Jesus of Suburbia

Land of make believe
And it don't believe in me
Land of make believe
And I don't care if you,you
[x2]
And I don't care!
[x4]

[Part 4: Dearly beloved]

Dearly beloved are you listening?
I can't remember a word that you were saying
Are we demented or am I disturbed?
The space that's in between insane and insecure
Oh therapy, can you please fill the void?
Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed?
Nobody's perfect and I stand accused
For lack of a better word, and that's my best excuse

[Part 5: Tales of another broken home]

To live and not to breathe
Is to die In tragedy
To run, to run away
To fight what you believe
And I leave behind
This hurricane of fucking lies
I lost my faith to this
This town that don't exist

So I run
I run away
To the lights of masochists
And I leave behind
This hurricane of fucking lies
And I walk this line
A million and one fucking times
But not this time

I don't feel any shame
I won't apologize

When there ain't nowhere you can go
Running away from pain
When you've been victimized
Tales from another broken home

You're leaving
You're leaving
You're leaving
Ah you're leaving home

This is a really great song. It completly changes about 4 different times throughout the song, which is 9 minutes long. It's just really catchy, and it actually entertains me for the whole 9 minutes.

It's just an awsome song. And have a personal reason to love it.

Before this song came out, my friends gave me the nickname Jesus of the 7-11. Ya gotta love it.

Uh...have you actually listened to any other Green Day cds? You want to hear "good ol' Green Day", listen to Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. All those songs are from 89-90 and they sound completely different than they do now. DOn't get me wrong, I love Green Day and I'm going to their concert by my this spring, but their music is continually changing. This album is nothing like their old stuff, so don't even try to compare it. They've grown for the better over the years.

No offense...but can't you see the similarities to older Green Day material? The oldest cd of theirs I own is Dookie, and maybe they've stayed relativly the same since, but were different beforehand, I dunno. It seems like the biggest change they've made is how they approached the cd (from each song being it's own story, to a connected, multi song story...sorry, I can't remember the word I'm looking for) as a whole. The overall sound, while there are changes, has stayed pretty similar. Just a little more sophisticated song writing is all.

the cd before dookie (kerplunk) is very good as well, but it's very different from their stuff on dookie and onwards

Anyone can easily enjoy this song, especially the second part, "City of the Damned."

This is a really great song!
Neo! The word you're looking for is *concept album*!! This is deffinately one of the best concept albums I've heard! Not the best but it's up there! I'm not really a huge Green Day fan! I loiked them when I saw them back in 97 and there Dookie era but this album blew me away, and still does!! The complexity of it but also the simplicity of the songs just amazes me!! Deffinately the album of the year for me!!

Well I prefer the fact that Green Day's sound didnt change too much and they didn't try to go Stop And Shop Pop or Pretender Hardrocker. I like the CD because its different but the same good ol' Green Day sound. Jesus of Suburbia & Whatsername & St Jimmy are like my three favs on the CD not counting the two or three songs not related to the storyline.

Jerehmy...
And God said: Let there be Green Day
And there was Green Day
And God got so bloody jealous because it was better than him because they FUCKING ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jesus of Surburbia is as wicked as it gets but the motherfucking retards on the radio cut it short for the charts! Couldn't have they just left a decent sized song alone? So it could take the world be storm even more?! This is a delicious slice of the American Idiot cake.
